Aleh Praliaskouski, head of the Main Ideological Department of President’s Administration recovered from the oppositional news-paper “Narodnaya Volia” 25 mln rubles and from Maryna Koktysh, the journalist of the edition – 2 mln rubles. The trial took place in Leninski district Court of Minsk. Maryna Koktysh reported it to Charter’97 press center.

Aleh Praliaskouski considered that the article didn’t represent the true facts and offended his honour, dignity and reputation. In Koktysh’s article from 2 August 2007 about the arrest of Uladzimir Holad, deputy head of the Main Ideological Department of President’s Administration, under the banner headline “what people say” were published the opinions of Internet users. In particularly, Praliaskouski was offended by the phrases “Holad took money not for himself”, “special relations between Holad and Praliaskouski” and “but Praliaskouski is at large”.

The official demanded 28 mln rubles from the editorial staff and 2 mln from the journalist.

Now the news-paper besides the payment to Praliaskouski must cover expenses for his lawyers.

“Narodnaya Volia” is going to appeal against the judgement of the court to the higher courts.
