The official position was presented by “house of representatives” Chernobyl Commission head Mihail Paplauski. He represented the position of the Academy of Sciences, the government and the parliament.
Mihail Paplauski declared that the question of the nuclear power station construction is not a debating one, it is no sense in discussing it by the general public. “I don’t see the problem as the decision was taken by the government. There are some questions that mustn’t be discussed –where get the fuel from, who builds. This should the specialists decide”, - the authorities spokesman declared.
“In the “house of representatives” the people seat who think our citizens are completely insufficient, - the United Civil Party head Anatol Liabedzka remarked. – The government came to a decision the nuclear power station must be constructed. The commissioning date is appointed, although there is no building yard, it is not yet decided who will build, where remove the nuclear waste to”.
The UCP leader thinks in today’s conditions we mustn’t construct the nuclear power station. According to him the issue on the nuclear power station construction needs the public discussion, engaging of the independent experts, the maximum amount of people should be informed to make a conscious choice.
“When there is no free information, independent press, court, parliament, the construction of the nuclear power station is impossible in such political regime”, - Anatol Liabedzka stressed.
It should be reminded that the Nordic Council is the organization whose members are the Nordic countries representatives. At Vilnius conference where the ecological and energy problems were discussed the deputies from Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Estonia as well as the politicians with the experience of parliamentary work took part.
