Vaitovich: congress of scientists resembles soviet congress of kolkhozniks

Former president of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences academician Aliaksandr Vaitovich refuses to take part in the propaganda and PR action - First Congress of Scientists. According to the academician, the congress pursues the objective of “setting a precedent for a propaganda campaign” and creates the opportunity for “PR for certain persons”.
“Some time ago in the Soviet Union the all-union congresses of kolkhozniks (members of a collective farm) were organized, where the progress of the agriculture, the most underdeveloped and inefficient in Europe, was noted”, - Vaitovich says. In his opinion, now the PR campaign of the Congress of Scientists advertising the progress of Belarusian science resembles those times.
According to Vaitovich, “the lists of participants are offered from above and are formally approved by the Academic Council”. That’s why there won’t be the speeches differing from the official point of view. “Such people will not be given the floor“, - former president of the Academy of Sciences said.
