The organizers of the action “European March ‘For Freedom’” hope to get a support from the West, the participants of the press-conference dedicated to the March arrangements, held on October 3 in Minsk, said. Chairperson of the committee, the Belarusian People’s Front vice leader Viktar Ivaschkievich said that a meeting of politicians with the EU Ambassadors had been held on October 2.
“Representatives of the European March organization committee - Aliaksandar Milinkevich, Andrei Sannikau, Mikhail Marynich and me - met with the Ambassadors of the EU countries residing in Belarus. The Ambassadors asked about the arrangements for the European March. We told them about the repressions against those who carry out the information campaign before the action: about recent arrest of the opposition activists, about detentions,” V. Ivaschkievich said.
BPF leader Vintsuk Viachorka said the invitations to the European March had been sent to more than 40 Deputies of the European Parliament and national parliaments of the EU members. “First of all we would like to see the Deputies who are responsible for their countries’ position on the Belarusian issue, at the March,” V. Viachorka emphasized.
According to the United Civil Party leader Anatol Liabedzka, the invitations are sent not only to EU politicians, but to foreign partner organizations as well. “We have sent the invitations to representatives of the “orange” coalition that has won the parliamentary election in Ukraine: Yulia Tymoshenko’s bloc and Our Ukraine party. Moreover, well-known Russian Deputy Vladimir Ryzhkov is expected to attend the March. During his trip to Estonia, Yaraslau Ramanchuk invited several Estonian parliamentarians,” A. Liabedzka said.
Now, as A. Liabedzka remarked, everything depends fully on the Belarusian authorities. “We shall see if Belarusian visas will be given to those politicians who were invited. Refusing, the official Minsk will demonstrate to Europe its aspiration to cooperate with the European Union,” the politician replied.
