The trial over one of the organization “Young Front” leader Zmiter Dashkevich is to take place 6 November. Politician Paval Seviarynets said it to BelaPAN. According to him, the trial is to take place in colony, where Dashkevich is serving his punishment.
“I think, it was made specially. Firstly, those who would want to be present on the process – media, diplomats, Zmiter’s friends, - won’t be allowed to the colony. Secondly, the conference of the Belarusian Christian Democracy is scheduled for 6 November in Minsk and most of Zmiter’s friends will take part in it. This won’t give them the opportunity to come at least to the colony walls and support their mate”, - P. Seviarynets noted.
It should be reminded that Z. Dashkevich is serving his punishment in Shklou colony of common regime ¹17. 1 November 2006 he was found guilty on the article 193-1 of Criminal Code (activity on behalf of an unregistered organization) and sentenced to 1.5 year of imprisonment. The trial was closed.
A new criminal case against the activist was brought up yet 14 August on the article 402 of the Criminal Code (refusal or evasion of a witness or a complainant to give evidence or of an expert or a translator to perform his or her duties). Dashkevich refused to give evidence on the case brought up against Ivan Shila, who was also accused of the activity on behalf of an unregistered organization “Young Front” (4 November Shila was found guilty, the court gave him official warnings).
The article 402 of the Criminal Code provides the punishment of deprivation of freedom up to 3 years.
Human rights organization Amnesty International recognized Z. Dashkevich a prisoner of conscience.
