Anatol Liabedzka: “Opinions split upon Social March’s route”

The Social March organizing committee has decided by a majority of vote: 12 p.m. 4 November after people will gather at the Academy of Sciences, the demonstrants will go to Bangalor Square, where a meeting is to take place. Such format of the march was permitted by the Minsk City Executive Committee. Nevertheless, the action organizers are going to meet the action participants on Kastrychnitskaya Square of Minsk at 12.00 p.m. 4 November.

As Anatol Liabedzka, leader of the United Civil Party said to Charter’97 press center, Siarhei Kaliakin and Valer Ukhnalou, heads of the Party of Communists Belarusian, Aleksandr Bukhvostau, trade union leader, some activists of the Belarusian Socio-Democratic Party (Hramada) including Valer Fralou voted for holding of the meeting on Bangalor Square.

Anatol Liabedzka declared he wouldn’t go to Bangalor Square. “We didn’t reach a consensus. The opinions on the Social March’s route split. The majority decided to fulfill the recommendations of City Executive Committee, it means they will go from the Academy of Sciences to Bangalor Square. At the same time they understood the position of the minority, the part of the organizing committee who want to come to Kastrychnitskaya Square. These are first of all, the youth organizations, a part of entrepreneurs, activist of different political parties and movements. Some people will come to Kastrychnitskaya Square because they wouldn’t have time to receive other information”, - the UCP leader said.

Today an appeal to Belarusians ahead of the Social March was approved at the organizing committee session, where the objectives and route of the action are explained. The text of resolution of the Social March participants was also approved in first reading.
