Tatsyana Klimava: “My husband has found himself in hell. Today my task is to keep him alive”

At today’s press-conference the wife of the political prisoner Andrei Klimau, Tatsyana, has stated that she couldn’t get letters from her husband for a week, and she doesn’t know whether her letters are received by him.

“I have made a call to Mozyr colony. And I have been told that Andrei sends me letters almost every day. However, in a remarkable manner I do not receive them. The last letter from my husband was received almost two weeks ago, when Andrei was in a quarantine of the colony. His letter was simply the following: “I have found myself in hell. I am to survive into Monday to witness the hell in all its harshness”. After that there was no news from him any more. Andrei hasn’t been included in the amnesty, and I doubt that he would be released at all. My mission for today is to save his life by attracting attention of the world community. The problem is as simple as that,” Tatsyana Klimava said to Nasha Niva.

As Radio Svaboda informs, International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) president Souhayr Belhassen has stated at a press-conference in Minsk today that she is set to institute a committee in support of the political prisoner Andrei Klimau.

As we have informed, Andrei Klimau was arrested on April 3 this year for his article posted online. The trial was held behind the close doors. The politician was charged with violation of two articles of the Criminal Code, “Appeals for subversion or change of the Constitutional system of the Republic of Belarus” and “Slandering the president”. Klimau was sentenced to two years of imprisonment.
