Youth gives a chance to authorities (Photo)

Numerous actions of solidarity were held in Minsk on November, 16. The youth came out to Nezalezhnasti Avenue, St. Iosif Church, city district Uruchcha, and Kamarouski Market with portraits of political prisoners.

The Day of Solidarity in Minsk began with an action in the city center. More than 50 activists of the campaign “Jeans – for Freedom!” formed a chain along the main Minsk avenue from Central Post Office to Lenin Street. The young people were holding portraits of the political prisoners in their hands – Zmiter Dashkevich, Andrei Klimau, Aliaksandr Kazulin, Artur Finkevich.

“The Belarusian authorities have a chance today to make a normal future for our country. For that they need to fulfil the EU’s proposals and release the political prisoners. We have gathered here to remind the society that there are the people who are in prisons for their political opinions and remind the authorities that this political problem should be solved as soon as possible,” one of the participants commented the objective of the action.

Militia and secret services didn’t hinder holding of the action. Only after the action one of the participants was detained. But after some tens of the campaign’s activists came to the militia room, where the girl had been guarded to, she was set free.

Some more actions were organised in the evening in Minsk. The activists of “Jeans for Freedom!” together with activists of other youth organisations took part in the pray for political prisoners, that was held at the entrance of St. Iosif Church. One more action was organised in Vera Kharuzhaya Street – in the pedestrian subway near the Kamarouski Market, and in the city district Uruchcha – the youth came out to supermarket Pervomaiski with the portraits of the political prisoners. The action participants unfurled a huge banner “Freedom to Political Prisoners!”.
