A complaint from a Minsk dweller has been received by the Belarusian Helsinki Committee. He was detained in the run-up to the European March just for passing by European symbols painted on the wall.
“On October 12, in the run-up of the European March sanctioned by the authorities on October 14, I was detained and taken to the police department by policemen of the special police detachment. None of them presented himself or explained the reason of detention. Moreover, I have spent 4 hours in the police department waiting for the interrogation, as the investigator was busy.
As it turned out, somebody painted a stars circle and letters “RB” in it on the wall of an administrative building. I walked by on my way back from a training session. During the quiestioning the officer shouted at me, threatened to throw me into prison, trying to find out where I have hidden a spray can. To my question what was my fault, he smiled and said he would find the reason. I tried to extort a confession of what I hadn’t done.
Then he searched my sports bag without attesting witnesses. But he found nothing except sports suit and bath articles there. Then the investigator told that I could go, and gave me advice not to pass by such writings at buildings, as my looks are very suspicious,” the complaint reads.
