Aliaksandr Lukashenka said last week that the officials were the first people to be deprived of benefits. But, according to the officials, they had no benefits. Instead they had, have and will have service pay.
Siargei Kamianetski, head of the commission on work, social protection, affairs of veterans and handicapped at the “house of representatives” resented, when he was asked about benefits for officials. The official says his colleagues have no benefits at all, all of them are bare and barefoot.
“Why are you pouncing on the poor officials? They are bare and shoeless. Because they have no benefits, privileges and preferences. They work on Saturdays and Sundays. In any ministry,” the official said to Euroradio.
What concerns increments for length of service up to 70% of the salary and sum equivalent to a month payment before annual holidays, it’s not benefits but “service pay”, according to the “deputy”. Company vehicles can’t be referred to benefits as well, the official thinks.
“It is service pay, not benefits. If vehicles are not private, they are public, company. It is given for an individual to perform his or her duties more efficiently. I personally have no company car. But the commission consisting of 8 deputies and 5 commission members has a corroded “Volga” of 2000, the “deputy” said.
The “deputy” often has to use his private car for his work. He received no compensation for that, though it is necessary.
“There must be a compensation for deputies, but they don’t pay it. There are rumours, that Papou had an appointment with the president, they discussed the problem and the compensation will be paid, but how it will be paid...” Kamianetski said.
In the commission head’s opinion, Lukashenka meant the cancelling of different benefits for officials in 1990ies, yet during the first years of his presidency. For example, chip canteens at the “council of ministries” and rest-homes.
As former head of the Council of Ministries Vechaslau Kebich said to Euroradio, officials had no benefits at that time.
“Let Kamianetski doesn’t say nonsense! We had no company vehicles, no chip canteens. When I worked there, we had only salary and that’s all. And option money for holidays equivalent to salary,” Kebich said.
The former prime minister said when he retired, he received money according to index.
By the way, it should be reminded that Siargei Sidorski has singed a decree recently, according to which policemen will receive compensation for their lost benefit. They used public transport free before, it cost for the state Br 40.000 or USD 20 per month. Now policemen will be paid from USD 110 to 160 extra per month. This bonus payment will be called compensation for using private vehicles for work.
