Former Chairman of BNR Council Jazep Sazhych died

On Monday, November 19, a public figure Jazep Sazhych died in Detroit.

Jazep Sazhych was born on September 5, 1917 in Haradchenya, Navahradak district. In summer 1994 he emigrated. He was one of the organizers of the Belarusian community life in Detroit, one of the founders of St. Spirit parish of the Belarusian autocephalous church in that city. He headed the local department of the Belarusian-American Union.

Since 1982 till 1997 he was the chairman of the Belarusian People's Republic’s Rada (Council). In 1993 he visited Minsk in this capacity.

Information about the funeral’s time is to be received later. According to the American tradition, Jazep Sazhych erected a monument to himself after his wife’s death. Barbara Sazhych-Mazura is buried at Belarusian cemetery in East Brunswick (New Jersey, US).
