Rainer Lindner: «Tensions remain between official Minsk and Brussels»

German-Belarusian Minsk Forum X begins in Minsk in the evening on November, 22. It is expected that Gernot Erler, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of the FRG, will be present on the opening ceremony.
The first forum took place in November 1997. Its Founder and head German political analyst Rainer Lindner created it as a platform for dialog between politicians, diplomats, scientists from Belarus, Germany and other European countries. The reason of organising the Minsk Forum was deterioration in relation between the EU and Belarus, Deutsche Welle reports.
Lindner stressed in his speech to participants of the conference, that the reason, which was topical ten years ago, hasn’t lost its actuality: there remain tension between the official Minsk and Brussels. With that, the EU has come closely to Belarusian borders from the moment of forum foundation, and it means the necessity of dialog has increased.
The topic of the Minsk Forum X is “Belarus is European nation in the process of changes.” German, European and Belarusian politicians, experts, journalists and representatives of non-governmental organisations will discuss transformational processes in the country, as well as relation of Belarus with its neighbours, including Russia.
The event was organised by seven big German political foundations. The forum is supported by the FRG Embassy in Belarus.
