Presidential candidates sent complaints to UN

Spokesmen of former candidates for presidency in Belarus at election of 2006 are to complain to the UN Human Rights Committee against violation of electoral rights of the candidates for a post of head of state. Igar Rynkevich, former lawyer of ex-candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin, and former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich have arranged about it on November, 22.
As I. Rynkevich said to BelaPAN, some articles of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights were violated against A. Kazulin and A. Milinkevich as presidential candidates. “We will seek the admission that there wasn’t presidential lawful election in Belarus, thus we will dispute the legitimacy of Alyaksandr Lukashenka on the post of president,” I. Rynkevich said.
According to him, the complaint will be prepared by the juridical service of A. Kazulin and lawyers’ office of A. Milinkevich within two months. I. Rynkevich hopes the public association “Belarusian Helsinki Committee” will join the working out the document. It has already tried to appeal against the results of election in the Supreme Court of Belarus.
“We appeal a complaint so late, because we needed to appeal to all national instances on the case of rigging the results of the election and violation the rights of the presidential candidates. We have sent a complaint on the criminal case against A. Kazulin to the UN Committee recently. It shows that we have passed through all national institutions, which could have defended the rights of Milinkevich and Kazulin,” I. Rynkevich said.
