Will total control over Belarusians be legalized?

Tomorrow deputies of the “chamber of representatives” are to review a draft law on the register of the population. As we have informed, that document was called “violating freedom of person” and wasn’t passed in the first reading by deputies. But they haven’t rejected it either.

But elaboration of the document has taken less than a week. One extended meeting of a specialized commission with participation of officials was enough to smooth all differences. Journalists were not allowed to attend the session, that is why it’s hard to judge the text of the document’s amendments. It seems that even with some insignificant amendments, the concept must remain the same: to number everybody and enter 26 personal parameters in a databank.

Speaking about the essence of the draft law, developers offer to collect all information on Belarusians, add some personal data (property, education, marital status, working place, blood group and so on, 26 parameters altogether), and thus form a state electronic register. After that each Belarusian will be given an identifying number.

Realization of the first, three-year stage of the state register making will cost 45 billion Br to the budget, according to developers, and will need a group of 700 experts.
