An official flag on the building of Polatsk prosecutor’s office was torn down, wetted with petrol and cut. After that the parts of flag were fixed on the prosecutor’s office’s door.
Katsyaryna Salauyova, student of Polatsk State University, has become a victim of persecution. The prosecutor’s office is making investigation on two articles of the Criminal Code–disrespect to state flag and participation in an unregistered organisation, Radio Svaboda reports. The girl was detained on November, 26, when graffiti “Nobody can stop us!”, “Long Live Belarus!” and others appeared in Polatsk.
Katsyaryna Salauyova will be at large during the investigation. The girl was questioned for several hours by the investigators on the criminal case brought up for disrespect to state symbols and participation in the unregistered organisation Young Front.
Policemen and KGB agents searched a room in the hostel, where Katsyaryna lives. They took away some leaflets and all data storage media. The investigators didn’t give her mobile phone back for three days. The investigators demanded to say the names of action participants.
Katsyaryna Salauyova, a second year student of historical and philosophical faculty of Polatsk State University, has already had problems in the university for her citizenship.
Recently prosecutor’s office in Gomel area has closed cases for participation in an unregistered organisation against some activists of the Young Front.
Paval Sevyarynets thinks the criminal case against Katsyaryna Salauyova is a logic phenomenon of today’s relation of the authorities towards youth organisations.
“The authorities are banging their head against the wall in an obtuse and senseless way, when they open another ten of criminal cases. I suppose it is a means of persuasion of Europe, when the negotiation is carried on. They say, look, how good we are, we close criminal cases. But at the same time in other region a new hysterics, new criminal cases, new political persecution occur,” Sevyarynets said to Radio Svaboda.
If there is a trial, Katsyaryna Salauoyva can be fined or imprisoned.
