Free Theatre’s performance was watched by militia

The Free Theatre’s performance “Being Harold Pinter” was shown in Minsk 7 November. As Mikola Khalezin, art director of the Free Theatre noted before the run, the first night of the play “Being Harold Pinter” took place a year ago near Minsk. Within a year the play was shown in many European countries, and in the nearest time the dwellers of Helsinki (Finland) and London (Great Britain) can watch it.

“Being Harold Pinter” is a play about the problem of different kinds of violation. The play includes the speech of Harold Pinter, Nobel Literary prize winner and documentary monologues of the Belarusian prisoners.

It should be reminded that during the first night of the Free Theatre’s performance in this August, all the spectators and actors, including the citizens of France and the Netherlands, were detained. The militiamen explained that they had received a telephone call concerning the noise from the building where the performance was on. Later, the first night of the performance finally took place – in the village of Kachkuny (the Valozhyn district, the Minsk area), where a private house had been lent for that purpose, BelaPAN reports.

This time the performance was shown without any accidents, though, according to M. Khalezin, the militia officers were noted at the site, where the spectators usually gather before a performance.

We remind that the Free Theatre was created two and a half years ago. The troupe hasn’t own stage, repetition base and sources of financing, so the performances of the Free Theatre take place in different places in Belarus. As a rule, such runs aren’t advertised much. At the same time, the collective often goes on tours abroad, it participated in some big international theater fests. The Free Theatre became a member of the European Theatre Convention in April.
