Absence of registration to be penalized since January 1

On December 12 deputies of the “chamber of representatives” have adopted in the second reading a draft law introducing administrative responsibility for absence of registration.
The draft law “On amendments to some codes of the Republic of Belarus on issues of legal regulation of administrative responsibility” imposes administrative responsibility for residence without registration, without a passport or a residence permit. These changes are to come in force on January 1, 2008.
As said by the chairman of the parliamentary commission on lawmaking and legal matters Alyaksandr Arkhipau, the draft law is aimed at realization of certain provisions of the presidential Decree on the issues of administrative responsibility, of norms of the law “On Corruption” in the Administrative Code and in laws of procedure on administrative violations.
The institution of residence permits will be cancelled since January. Citizens would be obliged to register there where they live.
