A deputy of the State Duma of Russia, Zhirinovsky offered apologies to Belarusians for the words in the TV program “K Barjeru!” of the NTV Channel.
A professor of Hrodna institute of further training of teachers Mikhail Zhuraukou has filed a claim to the court of Basmannyj district of Moscow against the deputy of the State Duma of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky. Hrodna dweller demanded to pay 10,000 USD compensation for moral damages.
The ground for the trail was Zhirinovsky’s phrase said at NTV channel. In February this year in a program “K Barjeru!” during a debate with his opponent Aleksandr Prokhanov the well-known Russian politician called Belarusians traitors who sold Russia to Germans.
Mikhail Zhuraukou was offended by Zhirinovsky’s words not only as a citizen of Belarus but also as a person whose father was a participant of the Great Patriotic War. Besides, Mr Zhuraukou has written a letter to the State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov, and called Vladimir Zhirinovsky a politial clown and a regular boor.
Today the professor told to the European Radio:
“An official apology has been received from Zhirinovsky. He was summoned to the ethics commission of the State Duma. He writes that “he deeply regrets his words” and so on. They called me on the phone and asked whether I am satisfied. I said yes. Certainly, it is hurtful remark for Belarusians, as everybody took part in the war in my family, many Belarusians died, and some guy would say such things. He could say anything he want, but he must leave my country alone!”
