Amnesty bill to be considered in autumn

The amnesty bill is to be considered at the autumn session of the «house of representatives" of the “national assembly” of Belarus. As BelTA correspondent was informed by deputy chairman of the permanent commission on national security of the lower chamber of "parliament" Yury Andreyau the decision on putting the mentioned bill on the agenda of the forthcoming session was accepted today at the commission’s sitting.
According to the interlocutor, it is not planned to consider the bill at once in two readings. First it will be brought for discussion in the first reading, and after its completion with the "deputies” remarks having been considered - in the second.
It is to be mentioned that the amnesty bill was submitted to the “parliament “of Belarus in September. It foresees the release of prisoners sentenced for crimes for which the legislation stipulates about 6 years of imprisonment. Among them are preferential categories of persons notwithstanding the served term of imprisonment; other persons who have served no less than one third of the appointed term of restriction (deprivation) of freedom and also those sentenced to arrest notwithstanding their served term . In compliance with the draft bill persons condemned for separate heavy economic crimes, theft, swindle, etc are also to be released from punishment if no less than one third of the appointed term of their had been served as well as all those having less than one year term of restriction (deprivation) of freedom left to be served.
As a result of the forthcoming amnesty over 3,5 thousand convicted may be released from serving punishment including more than 1,6 thousand from places of imprisonment .
Yury Andreyau also informed, that the permanent commission on national security of the lower chamber of the "parliament" suggests to consider amendments to certain laws concerning illegal circulation of narcotics, psychotropic substances and the like (the second reading), as well as counteractions to extremism (the first reading), activities of the Office of Public Prosecutor of Belarus (the first reading) and the amendments to the Criminal Remedial Code (the first reading) at the autumn session.
