Actions of solidariy in Minsk. 10 people arrested (Photo)

Actions of solidarity with political prisoners took place in Minsk on 16 January. Activists of the civil campaign “Jeans for Freedom” came out to Independence Avenue, Nyamiga Street, Yubileinaya Square, and Sport Palace.

Portraits of prisoners of conscience were pasted all over the city. Youth activists lighted candles near of the prison on Akrestin Street as a sign of solidarity.

6 activists of the civil campaign “Jeans for Freedom“were detained at the action of solidarity on Nyamiga Street. Riot militia came to the place of action 10 minutes after its beginning. Militiamen seized portraits of political prisoners from hands, and then began to catch the people. Among the detained are Volga Gulyakevich, Maksim Venyarsky, and Paval Kuryanovich.

It should be reminded that 27 participants of the protest rally of entrepreneurs, held in Minsk on 10 January, were arrested for 15 days. The people were sentenced to arrest on the next day after the action, and are being arrested till now. Militia detain them at home or at work. So, youth activist Yulya Siutsova was detained yesterday in her apartment. She was guarded to court and sentenced to 15 days of arrest. Three youth activists were detained at the trial: Franak Vyachorka, Anton Kalinouski and Ales Stankevich. The young people just came to support the girl in the court. Activist of the Young Front Uladzimir Syargeyeu was detained near the Tractor Plant.

It has become known that all detained spent the night in the special prison facility on Akrestin Street. They are to have trial today.
