Independent trade unions require Prosecutor General to answer

Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP) lodged Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Pyotr Miklashevich a complaint against failure of the prosecutor’s office on Leninsky District of Minsk to act.

BKDP sent a request to Igar Ukrainets, prosecutor of Leninsky district of Minsk, in view of unlawful acts taken place in the office of the trade union on 6 December, 2007. The prosecutor’s office hasn’t taken any actions on the request. The BKDP haven’t received a written answer to the request. Though, according to law, the answer must be sent within a month, the site of the BKDP informs.

A group of people in civvies and militia uniform, rushed into a BKDP office on Yakubau Street at 8pm on 6 December. There were young people - activists of the movement, in the office. The BKDP office was searched and a risograph was confiscated. Moreover, two activists were detained and guarded to the militia department of Leninsky district of Minsk. One of them was arrested for 10 days.
