“The Sqaure” (Ploshcha), a film by Belarusian director Yury Khashchavatski, has been awarded the first prize, Alpe Adria Cinema Award, for the best documentary film at the Trieste Film Festival (Italy).

The film presents events of March 2006, when mass protest rallies against rigged results of presidential vote took place in Belarus.

The jury awarded the film “Ploshcha” “for the director’s ability to create evocative images and to present real life through his passionate and, at times, sarcastic point of view”.
