Who is bothered by home networks?

14:35, — hi-tech

The response to the reports about a program of liquidation of illegally constructed home computer networks in Minsk cannot be called pleased.

Over a relatively short time when local area networks and metropolitan area networks exist, people have got used to them as to a friendly, near and dear, not always perfectly working but a cheap and affordable service. No one of one’s own free will would agree to lose “battles” and computer games competitions, chats and exchange of films in home networks.

“What’s your attitude towards extermination of home computer networks?” This question is asked by experts of KOSHT.com portal.

Dzmitry Kachanousky, KOSHT.com development director:

- They have simply decided to frighten people once again, and in this way speed up Belarusians’ switch to ADSL tariffs. In this case one doesn’t even need to think about the question “Who stands to gain from it?” One can simply re-read the text from Respublika newspaper. All interested organizations are named there. I can say on this fact that such a head-on attack on users is rather senseless.

Alyaksandr Vavula, the head of marketing department of Atlant Telecom:

- I think such a scenario is possible when local area networks would be liquidated. But it is hard for me to estimate the scale this “struggle can reach. Interests of a large group of people are affected here. The problem is that with the current presentation of a problem, Minsk dwellers are offered nothing instead of the liquidated networks.

Alyaksai Zhukau, a journalist:

- The situation with local networks is analogous to troubles with individual entrepreneurs. The apparent question is: did home networks impede someone? I think nobody was disturbed by them. One people could earn some money, and others could receive some service. It lasted for some time until the number of those who wanted to earn money became considerable, and they started to get in the way of each other.
