Lukashenka Surrounded by Enemies

A New Year address of Alyaksandr Lukashenka to the Belarusian nation could be summarized in two words: “enemies are everywhere”.

“To say it unequivocally, I suppose the expiring year was the hardest in the history of our young state,” Alyaksandr Lukashenka stated.

“Cruelest political and economic pressure, imposing of all kinds of sanctions, avalanche of lies, misinformation… In order to divert attention from their problems, leaders of some countries got troubled with the situation in Belarus, forgetting that the matter does not concern one of the states in their own country, but a sovereign European state,” Lukashenka said.

“It has been demonstrated in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, as well as at the territory of the former Soviet Union, where this kind of democratization leads. Endless political intrigues, corruption, economic decrease, devastation, and which is more important, these countries have become completely dependent on their “teachers’. And they cannot forgive us, as Belarus, which has suffered to gain independence, does not agree to become their stooge,” Lukashenka said.

Hike of prices for energy resources has become the most serious test for our economy’s steadiness”, the Belarusian leader underlined. “We can say openly today: it was a great blow which by its consequences could ruin any country” Lukashenka said.

“Those who foretold an inevitable breakdown to us, and those who wished us to have one, didn’t think about the most important thing: we have become one more closely united nation, a young, energetic and strong in spirit nation. Over the years of our sovereignty formation, by overcoming unthinkable difficulties, the Belarusian nation has become mature, and is ready to defend their own path of development by any means”, Lukashenka believes. According to him, the problems of 2007 have proved a historic fact: Belarus has become an independent, self-reliant state”.

“In these moments we feel our special unity: a worker and the president, a farmer and a businessman, a director and a teacher, a doctor and a military man. We are the nation, the nation which is not torn apart by a political struggle and property redistribution, but united by a common goal to restore our Motherland. The nation which allows political disturbances to enter their house, is predestined to vanishing,” the leader of Belarus stated.

At the same time, the Belarusian leader said that “the state is not a Santa Claus which can bring presents and give promises. It is clear that there will be many problems and hardships in the next year, but the country is to continue its rapid onward progress”.

As said by Lukashenka, the year 2007 is to make it into history by the first Belarusian oil produced on American continent”. “We are creating enterprises not only in our country, but abroad as well. Our investments have reached Venezuela, China, Iran and other regions of the planet,” he underlined.
