On late night on 31 December a national Belarusian flag could be seen waving near the railway station – over the five-storey house on Kirov Street in Vitebsk.

Vitebsk oppositionist Barys Khamaida said Radio Svaboda he had learned from reliable source about the message, fixed to the flag. According to Mr. Khamaida, it was written here: “To anniversary of Barys Ragulya, legendary commander of Navagradak Horse Troop. Glory to Belarusian hero! Miron.”

Barys Khamaida reminded that Barys Ragulya was born on 1 January, 1920. He is known in Belarusian history for organisation and command of Navagradak Horse Troops in 1943, which struggled against soviet partisans and defend the local inhabitants from Germans.

The white-red-white flag was waving over Vitebsk for more than an hour – until Ministry for Emergency Situation, called by police, took it down. At the same time police cars were searching an uncatchable Miron in the yards. The flag was removed with the help of a special car with ladder and taken to police department.
