On January 1, 2008 the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka received a notification from Citizenship and Migration department of the Central Internal Affairs department of Minsk. It is stated in the document that he is prohibited to go abroad.

The decision has been taken because Minsk city prosecutor’s office had brought up a criminal action against him under the article 367 Part 2 of the Criminal Code.

Besides, Anatol Lyabedzka received a summons from the prosecutor’s office. It is stated there that the prosecutor’s office views the politician as a suspect, but the measure of restraint hadn’t been chosen, and the accusation hadn’t been presented.

“In present preliminary investigation in this criminal case has been suspended basing on Item 5 Part 1 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code in connection with absence of opportunity to carry out measures of investigation. The grounds for taking this decision was non-fulfillment by law-enforcing agencies of the Russian Federation of a motion brought up by Minsk prosecutor’s office to provide legal assistance,” the letter of the prosecutor’s office reads quoted by Telegraf.

Anatol Lyabedzka stated that he had been prohibited to go abroad on political grounds.
