Anatol Sidarevich: “German ambassador tells a myth about good king and bad barons”

4

Anatol Sidarevich, deputy head of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party, commented to the AFN on words of German ambassador Gebhardt Weiss about the results of the “parliamentary elections” held in Belarus on September 28.

“What was desired at the top level, wasn’t understood and fulfilled on lower levels,” the German diplomat said.

“This ambassador seems to be a clever man, he represents the homeland of Karl Marx, Herbert Marcuse, Jurgen Habermas, but tries to tell to his countrymen and us a myth about a good king and bad barons,” Anatol Sidarevich said.

In is view, Weiss’s remarks can be explained in this way: “the authorities at the top level (Lukashenka, Yarmoshyna, and others) wanted the elections to be held in a democratic and transparent way, but authorities at lower levels misunderstood the desire of the top level.

“Whom does the German ambassador take for fools?” Sidarevich thinks. “Why is he having on us?”

“The Belarusian government issued a 3-year privatisation plan, and interest of German companies in investing the Belarusian economy,” the German diplomat said.

“Berlin is always trying to please Minsk to expand the German Wirtshaftsraum. For this it is ready to recognise as progress the fact that MP candidates weren’t mocked, members of initiative groups weren’t thrown to prisons, as it was in 2006, and international observers, as it was in 2004 with German Uta Zapf, weren’t expelled out of polling stations,” the Belarusian politician thinks.

“I remember that Uta Zapf, who had visited Belarus for five years, saw something and shouted at microphone ‘Diktatur!!!’” Sidarevich said.

He believes that ambassador Weiss doesn’t want to see what Uta Zapf saw.

“I have an idea: to apply for holding a picket near the German embassy in Minsk titled ‘Ambassador Weiss, Open Your Eyes!’” Aantol Sidarevich concluded.
