Lukashenka: “To allow count votes means humiliate Belarusian people” (Video)

Alyaksandr Lukashenka says the “parliamentary elections” can influence the development of a dialog with the West, but calls not to have illusions about the possibilities for this.

“The parliamentary elections have showed maximal transference and democratic character of our system, adherence of the people to the course, chosen by the authorities. They open opportunities for developing of the relations with the West, but we shouldn’t stop here,” A. Lukashenka said during his visit to the Committee of State Security (KGB), Interfax reports.

The head of state revealed his plans, he had before the “elections”. “I wanted to show our certain officials, businessmen, our conscientious citizens, that our relations with the West are not the relations between Lukashenka and the West, Lukashenka is not a point. I decided to play according to their rules, I ordered to allow all (observers –IF) into the country. I wanted to show them (officials and businessmen –IF) what Europe needs from us,” he said.

According to him, the elections showed in result that “the number of people, who think Europe is waiting for us with open arms, has decreased in the country”.

A. Lukashenka thinks Europe wants to see Belarus “politically unstable”.

According to him, the Belarusian authorities conducted the “elections” “by rules of the OSCE and the European Union”. “I wasn’t afraid of this. I knew that I was able to control the situation,” A. Lukashenka said.

“Thank pro-western politicians for their behaviour at the elections. People replied in due way – if you interfere in other people’s business, we will reply as we want,” the head of state said.

A. Lukashenka noted that OSCE international observers had all opportunities for monitoring. He also told that their demands to count votes was a limit. “To allow them count votes means humiliate Belarusian people,” he noted.

Comment of the Charter’97 website: Actually, OSCE observers didn’t want to count votes, but want to watch how votes were being counted by members of polling station election commissions. But the only thing they could see was, as an opposition leader said, loins of commission members. One can make certain of this by watching video.
