Does devaluation of currency expects Belarus?

Information has appeared that the National Bank is set to carry out a one-time devaluation of Belarusian ruble.

Representatives of Minsk banks say that the possibilities of further upholding the currency rate are being exhausted, and even the billion credits from Russia won’t save us.

The press-service of the National bank hasn’t confirmed these reports to “Nasha Niva”: “there won’t be a collapse. These are just ungrounded rumours. The situation does not step over the bounds of predicted key figures. Insignificant devaluation of the ruble is taking place every day, but there is no significant devaluation still”.

It could be considered that stability of the ruble depends on the results of talks with the IMF. The Belarusian government has asked a loan of 2 billion from the IMF. The first reaction of the IMF was positive, but no details are revealed.

Medium-term indices of development of Belarusian economy are pessimistic. At the round table of economists organized on November 5 by the Belarusian Popular Front party possible growth of external deficit next year up to 6 billion dollars was discussed as well as reducing of metallurgy industry production, automobile industry and food industry, and ruble devaluation by 50%.
