Criminal action against democratic activists Karetnikau and Sharamet terminated

1

On November 21 the former leader of the “Right Alliance” Yuras Karetnikau received a letter from the office of Prosecutor General. He was informed that the criminal case against him had been terminated.

The case was initiated on the fact of “hooliganism with the use of an explosive device on July 4”.

In three days Karetnikau received another letter, from the Interior Affairs Ministry. It was noted there that the ban to leave the country had been lifted from him. Besides, the letter mentions the name of another activist, Mikhail Sharamet, “Nasha Niva” writes.

Karetnikau and Sharamet were detained on July 16 and placed to the KGB remand prison as suspects in the blast case. In three days they were released. The most interesting fact is that on July 4 Karetnikau was in Strasbourg, which is confirmed by the stamp in his passport.

“I am satisfied by this decision of the prosecutor’s office. But it is not clear why on November 24 border guards got me off Kyiv train, when documents had been signed 3 days before,” Yuras Karetnikau says.

As we have informed, recently Belarusian border guards got Yuras Karetnikau off the train at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. They didn’t have a right to stop him from leaving Belarus, but they were waiting for a decision of higher authorities, as he was on a list of persons banned to leave Belarus created by special services.

The rest of the night the activist was to spend at the station. He was also to buy a ticket to Homel at his cost.
