Zeltser not allowed having TV set in prison

4

The lawyer of the US citizen Emanuel Zeltser, Zmitser Harachka visited his client in the hospital of Mahilyou colony No. 15. He failed to comply with Mr Zeltser’s request to bring him a TV set.

“I was simply told that everybody has TV sets, so they do not need another one. Mr Zeltser wanted to place the TV set in the medical unit where he stays. There is a TV set there really, but it is old, many people had been using it for a long time. I brought a brand new TV set, Vityaz, made in Belarus. They said “no”, Zmitser Harachka said to radio Svaboda.

The lawyer continues to follow the state of health of Emanuel Zeltser, who has a number of chronic diseases. After Mr Zeltser was transferred from Minsk remand prison to Mahilyou colony, his diseases exacerbated: the prisoner was offered an intravenous infusion drip, given medicines. As said by Zmitser Harachka, his client felt better, but he is far from being restored to health.

“He needs different medicines, different treatment. The administration understands that all, but cannot do anything about that,” the lawyer confirmed.

He says that a question of his discharge from the hospital hasn’t been brought up yet.

Besides, the lawyer brought food and clothes to the prisoner. However, as said by Mr Harachka, his client does not complain about prison food.

“Simply there are lost of products which are deficit in the colony, for instance vitamin supplements. And Mr Zeltser is very thankful for them,” Zmitser Harachka said.

Next time the lawyer is to visit his client on Friday, December 5.

As we have informed, Minsk city court has recognized Emanuel Zeltser guilty of on charges of "attempted industrial espionage" against Belarus and the use of fake documents and sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment. Zeltser hasn’t admitted his guilt. E. Zeltser’s brother Mark Zeltser who lives in New York says his arrest is connected with a case a dispute over the estate of his client, Georgian oligarch Badri Patarkatsishvili who died in London. A self-exiled oligarch Boris Berezovsky has claims for the property of Badri Patarkatsishvili. Berezovsky denies his involvement to Zeltser’s arrest.
