Cadres Reshuffling Adopted Unanimously

1

“The council of Republic” of the “national assembly” of Belarus at its special session on February 13 approved appointment of Pyotr Miklashevich to the position of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, and Ryhor Vasilevich as Prosecutor General. On the order of Lukashenka officials changed their positions. Recently Vasilevich headed the Constitutional Court.

The voting in the upper chamber of the parliament was held openly. Members of the “council of republic” unanimpously voted for Miklashevich’s candidature. The appointment of the former Chairman of the Constitutional Court Ryhor Vasilevich to the position of the Prosecutor General offered by Lukashenka was adopted by a unanimous vote as well.

Experts are rather skeptic about new appointments. “I understand that it’s rather hard for the Constitutional court in its present restricted existence to influence fulfilling constitutional norms in the country,” told the former judge of the Constitutional Court Mikhail Pastukhou. “But repeal of benefits for most categories of our citizens, as well as a referendum on lifting limits for the number of terms of presidency for one person, and rather contradictory decree on implementing a contract system in Belarus have been overlooked by the Constitutional Court”.

The former Prosecutor General Pyotr Miklashevich is in the same situation. He hasn’t worked in a capacity of a prosecutor a single day, he has no experience in сcombating сrime.

It turns out that to be appointed to the key state positions, one should first of all demonstrate loyalty to the present head of the state and adherence to the “party line”.
