Lukashenka to Putin about Kosovo: “Too late to sing songs”

28

Alyaksandr Lukashenka believes that Russia’s reaction to the events in the Balkans is delayed.

“I underline once again. It’s too late, the process started long ago, and now it’s finishing. We are “making shots at rear ends”. You should have defended Yugoslavia then. I knew that situation perfectly well – it was rather simple for Russia then to oppose the aggression upon our sister nation,” A. Lukashenka told to the TV channel Russia Today on Monday.

“I can say to those who regretted and was against Yugoslavia bombing: isn’t it too late to tackle this problem? We should have prevented the carve-up of the Balkans then, and Yugoslavia was to be defended then. And we with Russia had everything needed for that. And now it’s too late to sing songs,” the Belarusian president said.

According to him, “the process has started long ago, it’s underway”.

“Montenegro has broken away, other countries have broken away. Kosovo was left. It’s simply a continuation of those split. We have lost our influence there long ago. We shouldn’t have allowed that, so there wouldn’t be questions with independence now,” A. Lukashenka noted. He asked: “Can we influence this process? No, we cannot, let’s say that frankly”.

Besides, A. Lukashenka drew attention to the actions of Europe on the issue of Kosovo. “Problems are not solved like this. And I’m not even speaking of America, but Europe’s actions in our European house are disreputable,” the president said.

“There are double standards through and through. They are reproaching us, firstly Russia, that the position of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Transnistria is wrong. So what is right? So all these arguments by us and Russia are completely fair,” he stated.

Lukashenka sees Belarus as a self-sufficient and independent country.

Ion the future Alyaksandr Lukashenka sees Belarus as a powerful, self-sufficient and really independent country.

“I see my country as a stable state, where not 10 millions, but 13 millions live in Belarus, I hope. And we need 25-30 millions on this land, so it will be a complete independence and sovereignty,” A. Lukashenka said to Russia Today channel on Monday.

He also said that “he would like more people live here. So that Belarus was a rich country, so that it was a country with a young face, with more young people living here”.

“I want us never create problems for our neighbours, never create problems for Russia, Poland, Baltic states or Ukraine. And I want our country to remain like this. To remain proud, self-sufficient and independent,” A. Lukashenka said.
