In response to statements of the Belarusian prime minister, Gazprom said it leaves open the possibility of changing gas prices for Belarus during the year.
Gas price for Belarus for 2008 is calculated in accordance to the formula, as Gazprom said earlier, Tatyana Golubovich, Gazprom’s spokeswoman said commenting on statement of the Belarusian PM. He said gas prices for Belarus wouldn’t change during 2008.
“The situation remains the same. The price is calculated in accordance with the formula that meets the terms of the contract, signed on 31 December, 2006. It amounts to USD 119 for the first quarter of the year. The formula depends on price of basket of oil products. Price can change, grow or go down,” Gazprom’s spokeswoman added.
Prime minister of Belarus Syarhei Sidorski said on 21 February, gas prices for Belarus wouldn’t change during 2008. “In accordance with the agreement, in 2007 the price was at the level of USD 100 per 1,000 cubic meters. An increase this year made up 19 per cent and we are confident the price will not grow by the end of the year,” the prime minister said.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka has recently made a sensational remark in the interview to RIA Novosti and Russia Today TV. According to him, Russia threatens to double gas prices for Belarus in 2008. “We had to dispose about 3 billion of hard cash from the economy to pay. It’s big money for Belarus... But Russia threatens to double gas prices for us this year,” the Belarusian head of state noted.
