11:09, — Politics

A 19-year-old activist of the youth democratic movement Katsyaryna Salavyova was charged with a “crime” under Article 193 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (activities on behalf of an unregistered organization).

A punishment under this article envisages a fine, a three-month arrest or imprisonement for up to two years.

On February 27 during the investigation in Polatsk city prosecutor’s office an investigator Alyaksandr Masharski informed that since February 28 files of the criminal case are to be given to Katsyaryna Salauyova for reading.

As we have informed, on December 5, 2007 K. Salauyova was found guilty of committing two crimes: activities on behalf of an unregistered organization (Article 193-1) and state symbols desecration. The first criminal case is connected with activities of “Young Front” organization, and the second with events on October 30, when unknown removed a flag from the building of Polatsk city prosecutor’s office, tore it into parts and attached to the doors of the building.

“The second criminal case against Salauyova for insult of state symbols has been suspended. The investigation has decided that there is not enough evidence for its continuing,” a friend of Salauyova, T. Shaputsko said.
