IKEA’s Belarusian Project Frozen

The world leader in production of furniture has decided to suspend its activities on the Belarusian market. All plans of the concern in Belarus until 2014.
As “Belarusian Partisan” was told in Sweden, the leadership of the company was concerned by a deterioration of entrepreneurship climate in Belarus over the last month. There were enough people in IKEA who criticized the plans to open a shopping center in Belarus. The last straw was protest rallies of market vendors in Minsk, and a harsh reaction of the Belarusian authorities to these protests. IKEA will return to the Belarusian project only in 2014.
After opening shops in Kazakhsan and Ukraine, the next one planned a shop in Belarus.
The decision of the Swedish concern would undoubtedly affect plans of other world giants that intended or didn’t exclude a possibility to invest their capitals into Belarusian economy.
