Lord Bell devises plan for changing image of Belarus

14

An agreement with the British PR expert is to be signed in two weeks. “Alyaksandr Lukashenka said that he hadn’t turned to anybody to create his image abroad. And now such a desire has appeared. That is why we are writing a provisional action plan. I am to show my proposals for Lukashenka in the next two weeks,” Timothy Bell said.

Euroradio has decided to help Lord Bell and addressed well-known political consultants asking what they would do with our country.

Ukrainian political consultant and PR man Viktor Nebozhenko, who once worked with image of Leonid Kuchma and young Yulia Tymoshenko, believes that the first thing Lukashenka should change for improving reputation of t he country is providing good conditions for investors.

“The country should be more open and easily accessible, for business at least. It would be seductive, to create a kind of offshore corner for Western business in the center of Europe. Firstly, what the leader of Belarus could do, he should create an attractive climate for investments,” the spin doctor said.

According to Viktor Nebozhenko, Alyaksandr Lukashenka addressed Lord Bell namely because the latter is in touch with has contacts with influential people in Europe, and could act as a channel to the West:

“I have often asked spin doctors from Moscow: “You are given such orders and such an awful job which is obviously impossible to be done, aren’t you?” “That’s not important. The most important thing is that people view us as people who can easily access Eltsin, Putin”. So I think your leader has the same secret thought when making friends with the aged British political consultant,” Nebozhenko said.

A director for psychology and political advertising of political consultative center “Nikkolo M” Igor Mintusov (a personal image advisor of Boris Eltsin) believes that in order to change image, one should agree to radical measures the EU demands from Belarus today:

“A marginal image has shaped for Belarus. It’s a closed country, where a president does anything he wants, without consulting opposition or his citizens. He shouldn’t make steps that irritate European community. Demonstrations mustn’t be disbanded by truncheons, people shouldn’t be imprisoned for their views,” Mantusov said.
