42 women demand meeting with Lukashenka 5

17:34, — Politics

On March 5 an open letter was addressed by 42 women to Alyaksandr Lukashenka. They ask for a meeting with the president. Among the authors of the list are relatives of the convicts who disagree with court verdicts in civil suits, and those who had been affected by especially grave crimes, BelaPAN informs.

The women note that in December 2007 Lukashenka offered to establish a parliamentary commission on review of criminal and civil cases, like in the Great Britain.

“As no reply has been received to the address, in January 2008 we addressed you again with a request to invite us for a personal meeting. In order to attract your attention to our problems and solve the problem of our meeting, we have even decided to address Russian President Vladimir Putin. But that address has drowned inside your administration. That is why we address you once again. We are those you cannot receive a relevant answer to our complaints to courts and prosecutors’ offices, as stipulated by Article 450 of the Constitution of Belarus. Our fate and the future of our loved ones depend on these answers. But instead of relevant answers we are sent formal replies from officials. By that the officials demonstrate not only indifference and contempt to our problems, but their total impunity for violation of the law”.

The authors of the address remind that according to the Constitution, power belongs to the people in the Republic of Belarus. “You are making statements on behalf of the nation all the time. But we, representatives of the Belarusian nation, cannot solve our problems in our own country for a long time. So to whom does the power in Belarus belong to? We have an impression that the power in the country belongs to officials,” authors of the letter state.

They express a hope that Lukashenka “will initiate creation of a special parliamentary commission on revciewing civil and criminal cases, as court officials and prosecutor’s offices are not going to correct their mistakes”.

The authors of the address state they are convinced they are right and they are set to push for justice by using all available methods offered to Belarusian citizens by the Constitution of the country”.
