Lukashenka swears by health

Health is the top priority of the social policy of the Belarusian state, Alyaksandr Laukshenka said today at the meeting with doctors who have transplanted a liver, which was the first time in Belarus. However the real policy of the state in the sphere of medicine proves the contrary.
“We are doing everything in order to grant quality and affordable medical care. Such massive financial inflow into medicine is not done anywhere else, and has never been made in any other place,” Lukashenka is quoted by Interfax.
As said by him, “today we are carrying out large-scale effort on re-equipment of our hospitals, starting from hospitals of a regional level”. “At the moment we are buying modern equipment in order to make similar operations in regional hospitals. Then we are moving to the level of a district. At the level of the country medical aid must have an international class,” Lukashenka said.
Meanwhile, as informed by Radio Racyja today, according to the order of economy minister, 400 beds are to be reduced in hospitals of Hrodna. Taking into account the situation with hospitalization of population in the capital of the region for today, reduction will seriously influence the general state of health of the population.
Even before the planned reduction, Hrodna dwellers faced serious problems with hospitalization. For instance, a great number of people suffering from pneumonia have to take treatment course at home or at day patient facilities, which greatly lengthens the term of restoration to health. Besides, doctors are prohibited to give patients certificates of incapacity of work for the period needed for recovery. As a result, people have to return to work without getting completely healthy.
By the way, the order to cut 40 beds, which is a size of a medium city hospital, is kept secret by Hrodna authorities, as they hope that reduction would not be so radical. However everything depends on the size of budget financing, which does not instill optimism at the moment.
