Angela Merkel called on Europe to support Belarusians in struggle for democracy

Europe must support those, who struggle for democracy in Belarus and those, who are in Belarusian prisons on politically motivated grounds. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said it answering the questions of the members of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly after her speech at the spring session.
As Volha Stuzhynskaya, head of the non-governmental organisation “Office for Independent Belarus,” said to BelaPAN, Angela Merkel emphasised she was speaking as a representative of her party – Christian Democratic Union.
Answering the question of how Europe can help Belarusian supporters of democratic reforms, German
Chancellor said “information about people, who are kept in Belarusian prisons for politically motivated grounds, should be spread. These people mustn’t think they are forgotten.”
Ms Merkel expressed an opinion the attempts by European countries to return Belarus in the democratic community would be successful.
