Authorities finally denied rental of premises for UCP convention

1

Minsk city executive committee has refused to assist in renting of premises for holding the 11th convention of the United Civil party on April 20. The BelaPAN has been informed about that by a representative of Minsk city executive committee Axana Kryshchanovich.

As we have informed, for more than a month the UCP cannot find premises in Minsk to hold the convention of the party. On different grounds refusals have been received from more than 20 different institutions of the capital. On March 14 the party addressed the chairman of Minsk city executive committee Mikhail Pavlov with a demand to render assistance in renting premises.

“Today the head of public and mass events subdivision of the ideology department of Minsk City Executive Committee Eduard Tamilchyk said that the letter with an answer was sent to the UCP on April 15. He noted that the City Executive Committee doesn’t have free premises to hold the convention. He advised to look for premises ourselves,” Axana Kryshchanovich said.

Earlier the leader of the UCP Anatol Lyabedzka told to the BelaPAN that the party would hold the convention on April 20 “even without the regime’s sanction”. The politician views the actions of the officials as a “pre-planned provocation”. “Its objective is to prevent holding the convention or to create maximum obstacles for it,” he underlined.

On April 15 Anatol Lyabedzka made an open address to the prosecutor general of Belarus Ryhor Vasilevich and Justice Minister Viktar Halavanau. It is stated in the address that “the regime’s failure to act makes the party to hold the event without the sanction of the authorities”, and that “all the responsibility for results of the decision rests on city authorities”.

A, Lyabedzka has told that the party is ready for holding the convention technically. Reporting back and reelection meetings and conferences have taken place in all regions of Belarus. 230 representatives of the United Civil party are planned to take part in the party rally.

The main points on the agenda will be adoption of a new strategy of the party and an address to Belarusian citizens. Besides, cadre issues are to be discussed. Among others, election of the party chairman will take place.
