Pressure on Kazulin rose after U.S. sanctions imposing

A letter from the Penal Correction Department received by Alyaksandr Kazulin’s daughter Yulya on 1 April wasn’t an April Fool's Day joke. The administration of the penal colony, where the political prisoner is serving his term, refused officially to change the remaining part of the term to milder penalty.

The reason is that Kazulin “didn’t mend his way.”

– I received a letter saying his unexpired term of punishment won’t be substituted by milder penalty, because he didn’t mend his way, – Yulya said to EuroRadio. – The document dated 25 March was sent me from the Penal Correction Department.

Ihar Rynkevich, former lawyer of Alyaksandr Kazulin, thinks, Kazulin’s term can be reduced under pressure of Europe: “Lukashenka applies his algorithm: two steps forward in repressions and one step backward in bargaining with the West. I remember Kazulin’s words that Lukashenka understands only a language of force. But this force should be solidary, and here much depends on the European Union.”

Alyaksandr Kazulin wrote in his latest letter the pressure upon him and his brigade had increased after imposing sanctions by the U.S.

Yulya read out a fragment of the letter to EuroRadio. “U.S. sanctions caused the responsive sanctions against the brigade, to which I belong. A large-scale operation under the code name Kazulin’s Blockade is maintained, I guess, under the direct command of secret service. Its objective is my full isolation from the outside world, people, society. A crowd of different controllers are watching even my sneezing. All possible forces are activated.

As it is said here, I enjoy all pleasures of being under close surveillance, the only thing they don’t use is that they don’t place a head of operating unit in the brigade to watch me. Video surveillance of the brigade, room eavesdropping, pressure on people who can be accused of contacts with me – all these measure are taken.”
