Vyacheslau Kebich: “Day of Russia and Belarus’ unity is artificial holiday” 7

Today Alyaksandr Lukashenka has congratulated citizens of Belarus and Russia with the “day of unity”. However, the day of April 2 is not considered a holiday by most citizens of our country, as well as by such pro-Russian politicians as the former Prime Minister Vyachaslau Kebich.

In his book “Temptation by Power” Vyachaslau wrote about April 2 the following: “With unusual light-mindedness we announce holidays and cancel them, not thinking about whether they are considered holidays by the people, and whether this or that event deserves to be put in a special list…

[What could I say about] the day of unity of Belarus and Russia’s nations? How many people really remember it is celebrated on April 2? And people really do not know why it is celebrated on this day. So this holiday has an artificial character…

The unity of the states that was meant when this holiday was invented, hasn’t taken place until now. Moreover, in recent years conflicts between our states develop from time to time, which could cause an impression that we are moving in an opposite direction…”
