Miron hung out white-red-white flag on high voltage wire

Ahead of the 22th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster unknown people hung a national white-red-white flag in Vitsebsk.

Vitsebsk oppositionist Barys Khamaida said to BelaPAN that the flag had appeared on 3000-volt electric wires on the outskirts of Vitsebsk – above Leningrad Road the night before.

B. Khamaida said he had learnt from reliable sources of information that a notice was fixed to the national symbol: “The notice, signed by legendary Miron, expressed his attitude to the 22-year-old tragedy and perspectives of construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus.” “The authors of this project should be sent to the Chernobyl zone, for them to breathe in that air and eat that food. Practically nothing is made today for recovery of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster!” the message says.

Law enforcement officers, who for the latest months have been trying to find out who hangs out white-red-white flags, weren’t able to detain Miron this time, too.

In 2008 more than 20 flags in honour of prominent historical figures and important events of the Belarusian history were hung out in Vitsebsk.
