Trading House “Zhdanovichy” director arrested

Police arrested a well-known businessman, Trading House “Zhdanovichy” director Yauhen Shyhalau.
As “Sovetskaya Belorussiya” informs, investigating authorities do not comment on the charges against him. Other arrests have been made in this criminal case as well.
Officially no charges were filed against Yauhen Shyhalau until recently, “Belorusskiy Partizan” informs. It is only known about an incident with prosecutor’s office, when the prosecutors called one of constructions made by firms controlled by Shyhalau an unauthorized seizure of land. However that decision could hardly be a real reason for the arrest of the influential man.
Rumours are that Yauhen Shyhalau had a real business conflict with Priorbank recently. The matter is that Trading House “Zhdanovichy” was a founder of “Euvropejskiy” bank, and almost all cash flows of the largest market area of Europe were placed to that bank. Consequently Priorbank lost possibilities to control money, writing off of amounts in payment of credits and loans, which could become the reason of the conflict.
However, it was not the only reason. Yauhen Shyhalau has rather good relations with Minsk Mayor Mikhail Paulau. Once Paulau has explicitly demonstrated that by offering Shyhalau to become a member of the Belarusian Tennis Association headed by him. The sports circles didn’t know that name then, but on request of the mayor Shyhalau was elected a deputy chairman of the federation (together with Mikalay Mirny, father and trainer of Maxim Mirny).
