US loses patience 8

8:29, — Politics

George Bush’s administration said that health of US citizen Emanuel Zeltser, imprisoned in Belarus, had deteriorated and urged to release him.

“The United States is deeply concerned about the deteriorating health of American citizen Emanuel Zeltser, imprisoned in Belarus,” the statement of the US Department of State, spread in Washington on Monday, says.

It says during the visit to Zeltser on 25 April, an officer of the US consulate general in Belarus noticed “a significant physical deterioration of Mr. Zeltser’s health.”

Moreover, the prisoner “has not been permitted to take his required daily medications.”

“Because of these serious medical concerns, on April 25, the Department of State requested Emanuel Zeltser's release on humanitarian grounds. We have yet to receive a response and urge the Belarusian government to respond quickly and favorably to this request,” the statement of the US foreign affairs agency says.

According to mass media, New York lawyer Emanuel Zeltser was arrested by the Belarusian KGB in Minsk on 12 March.
