Will Belarusian property be sold to Arab Sheikhs?

Recently Alyaksandr Lukashenka has stated that soon the Belarusian market could become less open for European investors, as Belarus is “on the threshold of Eastern capital’s invasion”. “Lukashenka understands that Arab capital won’t modernize the economy in a way to become competitive in the markets he wants to enter. So his statements are a standard behaviour of a person who would like to sell at a higher price, and for the European Union’s demand to be lifted,” an economist Yaraslau Ramanchuk said.
So when the Belarusians are to expect invasion of capital from the East, and is it beneficial for them? “Zavtra tvoej strany” experts are commenting the reports.
“The Belarusians could make a fool of themselves, as in the next 507 years Belarus is to sell property which costs 130 billion dollars,” the head of an analytical center “Strategy” Leanid Zaiko said. “Now this property could be taken for 20,000 dollars, and in 4-5 years it will turn into a million, that is, capitalization will grow 10, 20 or even 50 times, proceeding from the experience of Russia. So it is completely logical that Eastern investors could have a desire to snatch a piece of Belarusian property, as in Russia, Ukraine or Slovakia everything has been snapped up already. And Alyaksandr Lukashenka is sitting ion this sweet spot and says about invasion of Eastern investors.
According to the economist, it is better to give this property to own citizens, who had been working long for it, and have created everything Belarus has.
“Enterprises, plants, factories, pipelines, everything has been created by people who were working in 1970-1980ies,” the analyst believes. “Now they are pensioners, and their pension is 180 dollars a month and they are offered to look at how the property would be taken in fact. What’s the conclusion? Either the establishment is fools who will sell and give away the property to Arabs, and the population will stay here as hired men, or the Belarusian regime will hold a referendum and adopt laws in favour of the Belarusians themselves.
Leanid Zaika offers to sell property primarily to Belarusian citizens, and transfer all profit (or at least 80% f it) to a state pension fund.
“Such a pension fund could have been created as a basis of the property created by citizens of Belarus,” the head of the Strategy believes. He doesn’t think that the country needs Nepalese, Syrian or Emirates’ capitalists, who will hire Belarusians.
“To begin with, we should understand what expects us in reality, as there is an impression that dozens of thousands of Arab sheikhs are queuing and want to invest their money here,” Yaraslau Ramanchuk, President of the Minsk-based Mizes Research Center said. “It’s a trick of a person who wants to hike up one’s price. Arab, Indian and Chinese entrepreneurs are working under harsh rules established in the world. Lukashenka understands that Arab capital won’t modernize the economy in a way to become competitive in the markets he wants to enter. So his statements are a standard behaviour of a person who would like to sell at a higher price, and for the European Union’s demand to be lifted”.
Yaraslau Ramanchuk reminds that a year ago during the visit of the Belarusian president to the Arab Emirates Belarus was promised that Abu Dhabi would be constructed here. Visits to other countries have taken place as well.
“But we do not have many trade connections, joint projects worth mentioning even with China, though friendship with them had been declared for a long time,” “Zavtra tvoej strany” expert notes. “So I think it is a kind of bluff familiar to all those who play such games”.
