PA OSCE won’t carry out a seminar with Belarusian “parliament”

Seminar, organised by the Belarusian “parliament” and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is postponed sine die, Vadzim Papou, speaker of the low chamber of the “parliament” said at a press conference on 28 June.

As it was informed earlier, the seminar on issues on attracting foreign investments was to be held in June.

“The seminar is not called off. It will take place. But the PA OSCE doesn’t send a composition of the seminar to us,” V. Papou said.

He noted that “the Belarusian party is ready for the seminar, it has sent all necessary documents”. “We think the people who are ready to offer investments, not just talk, should come to us, ” V. Papou emphasised.

It should be reminded that the first joint seminar was held in spring 2007. Issues on the European Neighbourhood Policy were discussed there. As previously agreed, issues on mass media activity in Belarus are to be discussed at the third seminar.

Note of www.charter97.org:

It’s evident that Vadzim Papou is hushing up real grounds of the calling off. How can seminars on attracting investments be held, moreover under the aegis of the PA OSCE, if the situation with human rights in the country remains unchanged and still concerns both the EU and the US?
