Captive Nations Week: Belarusian flag in New York (Photo)

Captive Nations Week has started in the US. It is marked under the law which was declared by a Congressional resolution and signed into law in 1953.

The Committee of the Week includes representatives of Cuban, Belarusian, Estonian, Bulgarian, Chinese and other communities. The ceremonies started in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where flags of the participants were blessed, including the white-red-white flag. Words of support have been addressed by New York Mayor Michael Rubens Bloomberg, Radio Svaboda informs.

Participants of the demo marched along 5th Avenue from St. Patrick’s Cathedral to Central Park, where a meeting was held.

The chairman of New York branch of the Belarusian- American Association (BAZA) Vital Zajka delivered a speech on behalf of the Belarusians. He reminded that the policies of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime remains a threat for Belarusian independence, and demanded to release all political prisoners.
