Investigators ask not about blast but about opposition organisations

Militia officers go on questionings of opposition activists. Democrats are called to militia departments allegedly in the blast case, but investigators are more interested in their membership in political parties.

Mahilou activists Tatsyana Bulanava, Aksana Zakreuskaya and Syarhei Laputsin were questioned today by investigator of Mahilou region KGB office Yury Zhukau. He explained the questioning was caused by necessity to confirm they had seen their friend Zmitser Antonchyk in Mahilou at night 3 July, but really were interested not only in that fact.

Human rights activist Zmitser Antonchyk was questioned by KGB investigator Yury Zhukau on 21 July. His friend Tatsyana Bulanava has been questioned today not only if she had seen Antonchyk in Mahilou on 3 July.

“He asked me about my study in European Humanities University by the way. He asked me about exams sessions in our university, how much money I receive for a session, what academic test we do and where we live. I asked him why he was so interested in that. He said: “I just want to talk to a good girl,” the activist told to Radio Svaboda.

Aksana Zakreuskaya was questioned by Yury Zhukau under teh same scenario:

“He was trying to know from me why I didn’t work on my education, why I didn’t want. I said to him I wouldn’t answer additional questions. I said I can prove location of Zmitser Antonchyk on 3 July, then our conversation was stopped. Our meeting lasted about 15 minutes,” the girl told.

Syarhei Laputsin was questioned by investigator Zhukau in the KGB office. Besides the questions where the activist had been on 3 and 4 July and if he had seen Zmitser Antonchyk in Mahilou, the investigator also asked about the activist’s personal life:

“Where do you work, what does the plant produce, what public organisations do you belong to? He asked if I received money from public organisations. I said public organisations couldn’t have any money. Then I asked why was so interested in my personal life and he said it had relation to state security and he wasn’t able to answer my questions,” Laputsin told.

The three activists think necessity to prove the fact that Zmitser Antonchyk was in Mahilou was only an excuse to question them. They say the KGB wants to scare them during the electoral campaign.

Nine people have been already questioned in Minsk blast case in the Mahilou region. Besides the mentioned activists, militia officers from Cherykau and Klimavichy questioned local oppositionists and journalists Syamyon Panizoutsau and Syarhei Arzhanets, deouty head of the Mahilou city BPF department Zmitser Salauyou was questioned in Mahilou, and journalist Syarhei Nyarouny and BPF activist Uladzimer Kudravyets were interrogated in Krychau.

As the Charter’97 press center has learnt, Maria Krot, activist of the “European Belarus” civil campaign, was called to Partyzanski district militia department on 21 July. The girl was questioned in the blast case, but the next day she received a telephone call and was asked to come for a 2conversation”. The girl refused to come without summons.
